Dear Dr. Eryn: How Can I Get My Fitness Back On Track?

What is your best advice for someone who is trying to make a change in their life when it comes to health and fitness?

  1. Start
But figure out how to start. Setting a regimen is very important, but once you get out there and you’re active, you want to eat better, you want to put the MCT Oil in your drink and go to your 9 am class.

  2. Have a Buddy
For me, I love socializing so if I’m going to do a really healthy Whole30 eating regimen, I will have my husband hop on board or one of my girlfriends. If I’m trying to go to the gym 3 or 4 times a week, it really helps me be accountable to have one of my girlfriends show up. Maybe make it a fun event like, “hey let’s go workout and then go get a cup of coffee after.”

  3. Chip Away
Just start with one day, then maybe two. I’m a mom now and when I talk with my clients I’m like, “How much free time do you have? Do you have 5 minutes?” They’re like, “Yes”! I say okay I’ll give you a 5 minute thing to do. And then you chip away, you build on top of that. Pretty soon you’ll have 10 minutes. And then you’ll see your body, and your mood will start to change. You’ll start to crave that health and fitness.

  4. Have Grace
The biggest thing is grace. I think people are too hard on themselves. So if they go all out and workout 5 days a week for three weeks and then all of a sudden they are exhausted and they let off one week. Sometimes they are hard on themselves and say, “Well I’m just going to give up”. You have a week off, that’s okay just start chipping away again. Call another friend, tell them to meet you there.
